2013 January Jaunt Results
The 2013 January Jaunt was the first spring rally of the
year. With temperatures over 14°C, competitors battled with mud instead of snow
and ice: no one went home without the need for a long car wash!
With a field of 18 competitors, the 15 Novices had a real
competition on their hands, competing not only with each other, but with
challenging instructions as well. There was a large field of first- and
second-time rallyists, competing alongside some more experienced novices, and
at the same time trying to understand instruction types like clock faces,
tulips constructed from map segments, and the ever-confusing straight-line
segments. The Jaunt is a long navigational rally, and it did take its toll.
Awards in Novice went to the teams of Boudreau and Boudreau
in first place, Olmstead and Hooper in second place and Armstrong and Deathe in
third place.

Intermediates and Experts had a more challenging set of
instructions (the same for both classes) including 4 mapping sections.
Intermediates Roger Sanderson and Linda Connelly topped the Intermediate class,
while the team of Louis Cabardos and Brian Maxwell scored an impressive 0.9
points over 3 legs of tough competition!

As organizer, I’d like to thank everyone who helped make
